- Unitary state
- A state in which ultimate legal authority rests with the central government, which may delegate powers to regional or local bodies but can in principle revoke them.
- Universal basic income
- A regular cash payment to every member of a community, without means test or work requirement.
- Utopian socialism
- Early 19th-century socialist thought of Saint-Simon, Fourier, Owen and Cabet, which proposed model communities and persuasion rather than class struggle. The label 'utopian' was applied later, often as criticism, by Marx and Engels.
