Polity Atlas

Contribute

How to submit experiments, dispute claims, translate and partner with the atlas — and the rules every contribution follows.

Ways to contribute

  • Submit an experiment. Failures, closures and paper proposals are as welcome as successes. An editor verifies every submission before it appears on the map.
  • Dispute a claim. Open any claim and attach a source that contradicts or qualifies it. Disputes are logged on the claim's history.
  • Translate. Entries are written in English first; Russian translations are reviewed like any other change.
  • Design in the Lab. Build a polity configuration, run the analysis and publish it for others to fork.
  • Partner. Research institutions can co-publish datasets and studies under our methodology.

Contribution rules

  1. Cite sources. Every factual statement needs at least one source. Primary sources are preferred.
  2. Separate facts from interpretation. Use the epistemic statuses: established, theory, disputed, hypothesis, forecast.
  3. No invented numbers. If a figure is unknown, say so.
  4. Disclose connections. If you have a connection to a project you write about, say so; it will be shown on the page.
  5. Be civil. Disputes are about evidence, not people.

Accepted contributions are published under CC BY-SA 4.0; structured data under ODbL.
