DisputedThe Arthashastra is a composite text with several authors and redactors; Patrick Olivelle dates its Kautilyan recension to about 50–125 CE, and the identification of Kautilya with Chanakya, minister of Chandragupta Maurya, is a later tradition that many scholars reject.
